Dress Form Evaluation Series

Antique Dress Form
I have been wanting to do a series of posts for a while about Dress Forms.
Over the years I have had the opportunity to use many different types of forms and I thought a post about their different qualities might prove informative for beginner and intermediate sewers.

We will be comparing:
Professional forms
    Prym/Dritz dial forms
 Duct tape forms
 Uniquely You.

My question for you dear readers is.....
Do you have any specific questions about Dress Forms that you would like answered?
Do you currently own one....which type?
Are you planning on buying one or upgrading your current model?
Are you curious why/what people use them for?

I will do my best to post each Sunday about each type until they are all reviewed and hopefully all of our questions answered.
Hope you can join me:)

  1. What a great idea. I would love to know if a dress form can help me overcome the shortcomings of fitting dresses on myself.

  2. I have never used one and I don't know what I would do with one except display garments for photographing and blog my sewing more often but it seems like a a very expensive purchase just for that.

  3. Do you have an idea what dress form would work for my daughter's figure? She is tall--5'10", but has narrow shoulders, small rib cage, a teeny, tiny waist, and average hips. None I've seen can be altered enough to look like her. And she hates standing still long enough to be fitted for anything! Is there any hope?

Any tips would be appreciated! :o)

    1. Your best option would be a Uniquely You Form. It's cover is first sewn up to fit your daughters figure and then placed over the compressible foam form to replicate her figure precisely.

    2. Thanks! I just looked them up online, and I see what you mean. Great idea. :o)
